Production Updates

Evidence Sello Magaga, 10 August 2014

Yesterday the crew went to Phillipi, a township in Cape Town for a test shoot and to meet with the documentary subjects. This meeting went well and our cinematographer Dana, got tons of help from local children and township residents. By help I mean a lot of hands on the camera help.

We are however excited about this. So far everything looks proper and the location is very pleasing production design wise.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Test Shoot in Phillipi goes handfully well

Screening in sight!

iKasi Heartbeat will be screened at the Labia Theatre on Thursday 16th October, as confirmed by the UCT SRP prducers this Monday. It's all systems go as Tal Aharanov gets stuck into the final days of editing!

Filming for iKasi wrapped up in some style as Zime Ntaka, Dana Toerien and Evidence Magaga followed the Skothanes on a Saturday night tavern hopping expedition through Philippi. Cai Nebe was left to prepare for any unforseen eventuality as the crew searched for the vital shots on the last day of filming. Dana Toerin had just one word to describe the night life she photographed: "HECTIC".

That's a wrap!

Sunday morning. Philippi style

Church outing and early morning shoots!

In early September, the iKasi Hearbeat crew stayed the night in Philippi while filming a late evening scene and a ealry morning timelapse. They enjoyed the kind hospitality of the iThemba Labantu Lutheran Church in Philippi who let the crew members sleep literally on the altar of the church!

Treatment pitch

The notoriously nerveracking Treatment Pitch had arrived. Now was the time for the team to pitch their concept for the film to supervisors DR Liani Maasdorp, SImon Wood and Julia Cain. The team was given praise for a slick presentation and a concept that  had enormous potential. The panel provided positive feedback and the iKasi Heartbeat crew was givena conditional green light - which upon review was turned into a very bright green light - and the iKasi Hearbeat documentary was on the road!

On the 20th September, the iKasi Hearbeat crew captured the vital insert of a church sequence at lead character Sindisa's house. Afterwards, the crew roamed around Philippi on a quiet Sunday. Dana Toerien found this smoky braai are managed to capture some splendid images while using the pogo stand!
